Chitrons, Souls, Spins, and Toranic Law
Human souls are made of invisible, subatomic particles called CHITRONS. Every conscious action, intention, and thought a person makes births new chitrons. A human soul is thus composed of all the chitrons accumulated over the course of their lifetime.
Chitrons are conscious particles and possess a quality known as SPIN, which is determined by the nature of the action, intention, or thought that birthed it. To summarize:
-
Positive (or ‘good’) actions, intentions, thoughts = positive chitrons that spin in a forward direction
-
Negative (or ‘evil’) = negative, that spin backward
At any given moment, a human soul will thus have a mix of positive and negative chitrons (i.e. those with forward and backward spins). However, by action of these chitrons mixing together, the spins average out, giving each human an average soul-spin that is either overall positive or negative. This soul-spin will constantly fluctuate, and, in extreme cases, may even flip direction altogether.
It is possible to determine a human’s soul-spin by looking at their KEIZA, a raised swirl of skin located in the center of their forehead. The brighter the keiza, the more positive their average soul-spin; the duller, the more negative.
TORANIC LAW is the name given to the omniscient, sentient, ancient magical force that determines the spin of each newly created chitron. In other words, it is what judges the morality of every human action, intention, and thought.
Internal and External Channeling
It is possible to harness chitrons to perform feats that would be otherwise impossible. This is known as CHITRONIC CHANNELING. There are two types of channeling, INTERNAL and EXTERNAL.
Internal channeling involves using the chitrons of one’s own soul to affect one’s own body. To non-exhaustively list a few applications, with internal channeling one might strengthen their muscles and bones to increase speed and strength, or improve their eyesight and hearing.
External channeling, also known as AMBIENT channeling, involves first bonding one’s chitrons to those of the environment; after which the environment itself can be channeled and affected. Some applications include walking on water, making objects levitate, hardening and compressing air to make a protective shield, or manipulating wind into a tornado.
By nature of the mixing action of chitrons mentioned in the previous section, external channeling carries a risk of infecting one’s soul if the ambient chitrons they channel with have a more negative spin than their own; i.e., some of that negativity transfers onto the channelers’ soul, ‘tainting’ it. This is why it is considered dangerous for humans to externally channel in a lower realm, where the ambient chitrons possess negative spins. Internal channeling carries no such risk.
Continued channeling can lead to physical and mental exhaustion, after which one has to allow their chitrons to regain their depleted energy or ‘recharge’. Recharging happens naturally over time, but is expedited in the presence of sunlight.
Realms, Torana, Ascension, and Descension
The world is split into four realms with starkly different living conditions. The two upper realms of PARAMOS and MAYANA are peaceful and idyllic, while the two lower realms of MALIN and NARAKH are full of bloodshed and violence. In order of best to worst: Paramos > Mayana > Malin > Narakh.
In general, those with negative soul-spins stay in Malin (with the most evil in Narakh), while those with positive soul-spins stay in Mayana (with the most virtuous in Paramos). That said, humans can be born to any of the realms… with the exception of Narakh, where human bodies are too deformed to give birth. Contingent on changing soul-spin, it is possible to enter realms other than one’s birth realm.
This travel between realms can occur only through magical archways known as TORANA. Torana connect two fixed points between two fixed realms (e.g. point A in Paramos to point B in Malin).
A torana can only be passed by those possessing the minimum average soul-spin needed to enter that realm. In order of minimum soul-spin limits: Paramos > Mayana > Malin > Narakh, with Narakh having no limit. In simpler words, to enter…
-
Paramos, you have to be extremely nice
-
Mayana, you have to be at least somewhat decent
-
Malin, you can be pretty terrible but not inexcusably evil
-
Narakh, you can be whatever you want, including inexcusably evil
There are two types of movement between realms via torana, ASCENSION and DESCENSION. Ascension means moving to a higher realm (e.g. Malin to Mayana, or Mayana to Paramos), while descension means moving to a lower realm (e.g. Paramos to Mayana, or Mayana to Malin).
If a human’s soul-spin fulfils the minimum needed to enter a higher realm, they will be able to ascend through a torana that leads to that realm. This ascension is not enforced and can be done voluntarily, at any time.
However, if a human’s soul-spin no longer fulfils the minimum needed to stay in their current realm, they will be forced to descend immediately—also through a torana. In this case, the human will be physically dragged through the nearest torana, or, if there is none in the vicinity, a temporary one will appear to suck them through.
While it is theoretically possible to ascend or descend based on changing soul-spin, this is seen to be harder in practice. Ascension from Malin to Mayana, in particular, is an extremely rare phenomenon.
The Seitarius, Kal Ekana, and Kal Charana
The SEITARIUS or PLANETARY BEASTS are colossal mythical creatures who created the universe from scratch. They are:
-
SORKEN the planetary MEGARYA (winged dolphin)
-
SHERKA the planetary GAZAROU (grass wolf)
-
AZYAKA the planetary NAGAMOR (peacock snake)
-
ANDRAKEN the planetary VANDRAGHOR (demon roach)
These four are regarded as gods and goddesses, and their descendents—lesser beasts of the same species, but much smaller in size and power—inhabit the world they created, along with humans.
When the seitarius first created the world, it existed as one realm, and the age that followed was known as KAL EKANA or the ONE REALM ERA. During Kal Ekana, humans were mortal. After death, their souls would reincarnate in new bodies.
Due to a great war that threatened to destroy the universe, the seitarius were forced to split the one realm into four to achieve peace. This split was known as the GREAT TORANIC SEPARATION. The age that followed was known as KAL CHARANA or the FOUR REALM ERA. For reasons that remain unknown, humans gained immortality during this time and remain unable to die; even if their bodies are badly injured, their souls cling onto their painful existence.
Their only respite from this is ERASURE, a terrifying and rare phenomenon that leads to the complete and permanent destruction of the soul itself along with every chitron that comprises it.
Some religious sects believe that the bodies of the beasts lay in slumber, deep inside each of the four realms: Sorken in Paramos, Sherka in Mayana, Azyaka in Malin, and Andraken in Narakh. Their souls, projected outside of their bodies, are what comprise the ambient chitrons of each realm.
The Universal Void, the White Flash, and the Chitronic System
When a soul ascends from Malin to Mayana, its spin flips from negative to positive. When it descends from Mayana to Malin, the flip is from positive to negative. In both cases, there is a brief instant in which the soul has a spin of 0. During this instant, the soul passes through a fifth realm: a blank space known as the UNIVERSAL VOID. When this happens, a white torana leading in and out of the Void manifests for the duration of the passage. For most souls, the journey through the Void is so instantaneous that it is registered in the brain as a flash of white.
Known to few outside the authorities of the upper realms, there is a chitronic system inside the Void. It is a sort of control unit for the four realms and the barriers that separate them; changing it will affect the realms themselves. The barriers between the realms are, in truth, nothing more than giant and extremely powerful chitronic shields, each barrier made of chitrons from the soul of the beast that lies within that realm.
There is some deliberate obfuscation of the relationship between the barriers, torana, and Toranic Law which has been propagated by the Preservation. Toranic Law dictates soul-spin but has no practical or causal effect outside of that. The shields / barriers and the torana that operate within their constraints are what cause ascension and descension. In fact, the barriers and torana were created after the Great Toranic Separation, while Toranic Law existed centuries earlier, since the start of Kal Ekana.
The naming of the torana and the misnomer of Toranic Law (its correct spelling is Torhanic) have further strengthened the perception that the two are one in the same… leading to frequently heard but incorrect statements such as “Toranic Law deemed his soul too impure for Mayana” or “Toranic Law judged her worthy of ascension to Paramos.”
